This basic granny square is made with clusters of 3 double crochet. The first cluster always starts with a chain 3, and follows up with 2 double crochet (The chain 3 acts as a double crochet).
Between every cluster there is a chain 1, except on the corners, in the corner there are 2 chains.
Continue making rounds with clusters until you reach 12 rounds
Make a last (13th) round with single crochets around the snuggle with 2 inc in the corners.

This is my absolute favorite elephant snuggle pattern! I have made multiple loveys and they always turn out wonderfully! Thank you a million!!!
hayleylouise –
I tried this a few years ago before really understanding what the heck I was doing wiht crochet, just tried it again and it’s beautiful! thank you so much!
Anna Gould –
I love the Elephant Lovey! I am having problems with row 8 of the trunk. Please explain stitch by stitch what to do. Thanks for your help.
Dendennis –
Hi Anna, I am not sure how to explain easier. But I will give it a try:
First you crochet 1 Single Crochet, then crochet 2 Half Double Crochet, crochet in the next two stitches 2 Half Double Crochet (increase with hdc), then again crochet 2 Half Double Crochet, and finish with 3 Single Crochet.

Thank you so much! Appreciate your help!
Anna Gould –
I thought I responded last night thanking you for your explanation but I don’t see it. Your explanation really helped me understand this row. For some reason it was confusing but now I understand! Thank you again.
Drina –
This is a beautiful piece but what size hooks are you using for the elephant?
Dendennis –
Thank you! I’ve used hooksize 2.5 mm and for the blanket I’ve used 3 mm
Ashley McKinley –
I want to make this so badly – but I can’t seem to find where you state what size hook you used… can you please share?
Dendennis –
That all depends on the type of yarn you are going to use. Usually for amigurumi and baby toys you can use a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label
Gail –
I cant figure out what yarn to use Is it bulky? Or regular baby yarn?
Dendennis –
I used cotton yarn. The brand is Phildar Coton 3, and I’ve used hook size 2.5 mm for the head and 3 mm for the blanket.
Rhonda –
So cute. What size hooks do you use.
Dendennis –
Hi there, I’ve used hooksize 3.mm for the blanket and 2,5 for it’s head. But it all depends on the type of yarn you are going to use.

Good Afternoon! I’m almost finished with my 1st Elephant Snuggle. What a Great pattern! I’ve only been crocheting a couple years and it’s VERY easy to follow!
Can you provide a little instruction on attaching the head & arms to the blanket?
Thanks so much!
Dendennis –
Hi Laurie, I hope you figured it out, after our mail contact?
Diane –
How much yarn does this pattern take?
Dendennis –
Ooh that’s a good question. It has been several years since I crocheted this. I know it’s not much, but I don’t know the exact amount. So sorry
Marisa –
Love this pattern! Very cute 🙂 and informative. Could you let us know where exactly to attach the head and arms to the blanket so it can still fold up nicely like in your pictures? Thanks!
Dendennis –
Hi there! The arms are sewed on the bottom of the head. And then sewed exactly in the middle of the blanket!
